The Advancing Families and Communities (AFC) program aims to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples by working with families to reduce barriers to education and employment. Support is tailored to the needs of each family member. Children are encouraged to attend school and learning environments that improve their socialisation and educational outcomes, while parents and carers are supported with their child’s education and their own employment endeavours.

How can this program help my family?

The AFC program provides support and assistance to reduce the barriers to school attendance and unemployment, to increase educational and employment outcomes for children into adulthood.

The assistance provided is tailored to the needs of each family member. Children are encouraged to attend school and learning activities that improve their social skills and educational outcomes, while parents and carers are supported with their child’s education and their own work readiness. Support can be delivered individually, in family groups or through workshops and group support. Although one-on-one assistance is provided, we take a whole family approach.

The AFC program can help you and your family be more involved with education and training, for both parents and children.
