Taking control of a gambling addiction isn’t easy and it’s okay to ask for help! Uniting Country SA Gambling Help Service can assist by providing free, confidential, therapeutic and financial counselling services to those who are struggling with the consequences of problem gambling. We not only assist individuals who gamble, we also talk with families, partners and friends of those who may be dealing with a loved one who is experiencing gambling addiction, providing support, tools, knowledge and strategies for self-care and income management.

How can we help?

What starts out as fun can quickly become a serious problem, especially when it begins to negatively affect your daily life or cause financial difficulties. This is where our Gambling Help Counsellors come into the picture. You will be provided 1:1 support on an ongoing basis and if you need extra support in other areas of your life, our Counsellors can provide referrals and support you to access other programs or services. Other services may include (but not limited to) mental health, cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT), alcohol or substance abuse and strengthening relationships.

We understand that people may not want come into our office so our counsellors provide a flexible approach. If you prefer not to meet in one of our offices, counsellors can organise to meet with in a neutral location (such as a coffee shop or café) or even in the comfort of your home. Even if you live in a remote location outside of our main service areas, we may be able to travel to you and meet face to face.

Counsellors will assist in finding strategies that work for you, so you can re-gain control of your life and finances.

Peer Support Groups are available in some areas, providing a relaxed social setting to interact with other individuals who are also seeking support for problem gambling. Our safe and confidential group facilitated by trained counsellors is held regularly over a catered lunch.

Who can we help?

Gambling Help Services are accessible to community members over the age of 18 who are affected by problem gambling either directly or indirectly; the Help Service is here for anyone, not just the gambler.

Gambling Help Services assist people overcome all kinds of problem gambling behaviour including issues relating to:

• TAB
• Horse and Dog Racing
• Sports Betting
• Computer and Mobile Phone based games
• Stock Market
• Bingo and Lotto

The referral process is as easy as making a phone call or coming into one of our offices. Organisations, services, family members and gaming venues can also refer someone with problem gambling, again it is as easy as phoning 1300 067 777 or completing the referral form.
