How can this service help my family?

Children and Parenting Support Services provides an early intervention and prevention approach to supporting children and their families. This service seeks to identify issues impacting on parenting, including the risk of neglect or abuse. With the focus on the wellbeing of children, a key component of early intervention and prevention is to increase protective factors to enable children and families to be more resilient and able to address any issues before they escalate.

Families participating in this service have the opportunity to attend Parent Education and parenting skills courses as well as participating in peer support groups. Scheduling of parenting courses is client driven and in consultation with the parent group to ensure the needs of group members are met. Courses may include recognised programs such as Circle of Security, 123 Magic, Applied First Aid or Child Safe Environments (now known as Safe Environments - Through Their Eyes), or other informal activities focusing on social engagement.

Additionally, the service is supported by an on-site BBF crèche where children participate in school readiness activities while their parent/carer participates in parenting courses and/or peer support groups.

A supported playgroup is also offered through the BBF program.

Our goals are help you with parenting education, to strengthen social connections, to help with school readiness and provide a supported playgroup. By increasing the capacity of parents, carers and grandparent carers, Children and Parenting Support Service and the Budget Based Funded Creche help improve children’s wellbeing, physical and emotional development.
